Tivoli Gardens returned to the top of the Digicel Premier League (DPL)
after
crushing Sporting
Central Academy
4-0 at Brancourt.
In a contentious game, home team Sporting Central saw defender Gregory
Lewis
red carded in the 59th minute and two minutes later, his manager Brandon
Murray
was also dismissed.
Young striker Dane Kelly opened the scoring for Tivoli in the 50th
minute
before Jameel Thompson doubled the advantage in the 67th.
Former national striker Roland Dean then put the icing on the cake with
two
late goals in the 81st and 84th minutes. Dean with his fifth and sixth
goals
climbed up the ladder to joint fourth with teammates Owen Powell,
Keammar Daley
and Arnett striker Kevin Wilson.
Tivoli with their seventh away and their 13th overall, moved into pole
position
on 51 points, the same as Harbour View but with a superior goal
difference.
Sporting Central which was losing their third consecutive game and win
once in
their last eight games, dropped a spot to eight on 30 points.
At UWI Bowl, home team August Town stunned Harbour View 2-1 and
continued their
fine form which see them climb two places up to sixth in the table.
August Town now won five of their last seven games to be on 31 points
and
currently occupying the last spot of the elite group.
Harbour View, which started the day in front on 51 points, have slipped
to
second behind rival Tivoli Gardens, but has a game in hand against St
Georges.
Kavin Bryan gave the Stars of the east a 48th minute lead but Daniel
Shaw
pulled August Town level in the 66th minute for his third goal of the
season.
Goalkeeper Devon Haughton, who plays as a striker for UWI in the
Business House
league, converted a 93rd minute penalty for the win.
Title-chasing Waterhouse had to come from behind twice to hold St
Georges to a
2-2 draw at Lynch Park in Portland and slip further behind the leaders.
Richard Watson’s goalbound shot took a wicked deflection but he was
credited with the goal in the 21st minute to give St Georges the lead.
Nicholy Finlayson equalized for Waterhouse ten minutes later before
Dwayne
Holmes restored St Georges’ lead in the 50th minute from the penalty
spot.
But Waterhouse was not to be denied and Kemar Thomas again pulled them
level in
the 66th minute for a share of the points.
Waterhouse remained third on 42 points and are nine behind the leaders
while St
Georges missed a glorious opportunity to leapfrog Boys Town and remained
fifth
on 38 points.
A Newton
Sterling goal
in the 25th minute gave Arnett Gardens a 1-0 win over Rivoli United
which lost
Barrington Planter to a 61st minute red card.
It was Arnett’s first win in 13 attempts and their sixth overall but
they
remained at the bottom on 26 points but have closed the gap the teams
just
above them. They are just five points adrift of the sixth-placed team
August
Town on 31 points.
Rivoli United which was losing for the first time in four games, dropped
a spot
to seventh on 30 points.
Meanwhile Boys’ Town and Humble Lions played to a 0-0 draw at Brancourt
in
a result that did them no favours.
Boys’ Town stayed fourth on 39 points and are 12 points adrift of the
leaders after winning just once in their last eight outings.
Humble Lions, despite playing well are too near to the relegation zone
and are
on 28 points, just two points above cellar team Arnett Gardens.
In the late kickoff, the visiting Village United edged Portmore United
1-0
courtesy of a Dino Williams 78th minute strike.
The
Trelawny-based outfit climbed out of the relegation zone, two spots up
to ninth
on 30 points, the same as Sporting Central and Rivoli United.
Portmore
United which was losing their
11th game slipped two spot into the relegation zone with 27
points.
